Fan Into Flame
April 12, 2026
What if the moments that terrify you are exactly where you grow the most?
In this final message of The Familiar Stranger series, we return to John 20 where Jesus breathes on His disciples and says "Receive the Holy Spirit." This wasn't just a warm feeling or spiritual idea. The resurrection was physical, proven by Jesus eating fish and inviting Thomas to touch His scars. That same Spirit is given to us, not to make us timid, but to give us power, love, and self-discipline.
Drawing from 2 Timothy 1:6-7, we discover that God calls us to fan into flame the gifts He's placed within us. Don't let them smolder. Don't let fear convince you that you can't do what God has called you to do. The Holy Spirit doesn't give us a spirit of timidity. When you step into what scares you, when you lean into the "pee in your pants zone," that's where growth happens. That's where you experience something you've never done before, which prepares you to do the next impossible thing.
